Donald Trump has signed an executive order that fundamentally threatens the balance of power in our government. This order asserts that the president, along with the Attorney General, has the authority to define the law, effectively making the executive branch the sole interpreter of the Constitution.

In essence, Trump is claiming the power to unilaterally decide what the law is—completely sidelining the Supreme Court, the very institution designed to interpret and uphold the Constitution.

This is a direct assault on the judicial branch. It’s a blatant attempt to strip away the power of the courts, which were put in place as a check on executive power. And this should deeply concern every American.

Trump’s disregard for constitutional checks and balances is nothing new. He has already attempted to violate the 14th Amendment by signing an executive order to repeal it—a move that was fortunately blocked by federal courts. This cannot continue.
