From ‘Private Gift’ to Taxpayer Funded: Trump’s Ballroom Could Cost Americans $1 Billion
Trump lied. Again.
Donald Trump initially unveiled his luxury new ballroom project as a patriotic gesture; an opulent addition supposedly funded entirely by generous private donors. At the time, he framed it as a gift to the nation, emphasizing that taxpayers wouldn’t bear any of the cost.
But in the weeks since, that narrative has begun to unravel.
Back in November, Donald Trump told reporters, “These are all private individuals that put up a lot of money to build the ballroom,” Trump said during a press conference back in November. “Not one penny is being used from the federal government.”
Now, that assurance is being called into question. While the ballroom itself; spanning a massive 90,000 square feet; was pitched as cost-free to the public, new developments reveal the true price tag could extend far beyond private donations.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has introduced a sweeping long-term immigration and border security funding bill that includes a striking provision; $1 billion allocated for security upgrades tied to the ballroom project.
Senate Democrats are pushing back. They intend to challenge the provision when the bill reaches the Senate floor, aiming to strip the $1 billion allocation before it can be approved. The coming vote is shaping up to be a flashpoint, not just over fiscal responsibility, but over transparency and political accountability.

No way in hell I'm paying for a ballroom and labs that were never approved, while millions of Americans are struggling. There was already one in the WH, and a secure place to go. He should pay to restore the East wing.
I'm sure that whatever $ was donated went into his pocket.
